If you want to look at it this way, our trip started a day early. After work on Tuesday the 22nd, Shae and I took Sophie (our parrot) to her mom's house about 45 minute out of the city, so she could baby-sit her while we were gone. We had already decided to spend the night there and that her mom was going to drive us to the airport be for she goes to work. By the time we get a pizza to make and settle in the time was already 11 pm. Not bad, but to make the flight we needed to be up by 4 am and on the road no later then a quarter to 5. It was not that easy getting up but we all made it, traffic was not bad at that time and check in and security was fine and surprisingly quick.
The only snapho was waiting for coffee, we stopped at the French Meadow Bakery (at least I think it was the place) to get a latte' but to our surprise they only had regular coffee. So we went to the starfucks where the line was long and service was slow to get it. Now Shae can be a bit impatient especially when she is tired and is waiting for caffeine. So the 4 minute wait felt more like 40 minutes. It probably did not help when I kept on saying, "It's vacation, relax, we have to wait for the plane any ways". Ok, I know it did not help, but damn-it, I have not been on vacation for many years and I did not want to be stressed out at all. Go with the flow, don't plan anything and if we don't do everything that is fine. Relax!
We had the idea that sleep would be found on the airplane, at least for a little while. I must say we were WRONG, no thanks to the two little SCREEMING kids the WHOLE way to Charlotte. Long story short, we did not kill anyone but the thought did cross our minds several times.
After an annoying flight, we decided that after we got our rent a car that we would find something to eat in Charlotte then drive the 2 hours to Boone. The rental guy told us where to find some decent food, well, we did not find any where he had told us, but we did end up downtown by happenstance and found Jolina Tex Mex Kitchen & Bbq off of college st, so we stopped there.
Jolina's was a nice place with in a newer building, they made a point to be a bit quarky in there ambiance that make it homey, and they had a nice outdoor seating area. It was really slow but it was only 11ish am. We sat at the bar to eat, and the girl behind the bar was as sweet as apple pie and very helpful. She was the first one to point out that "you aren't from around these here parts, are you?" So that gave us all something to chat about for a while.
Shae got the torttia soup and I got the pulled pork BBQ sandwich with spicy seasoned fries and a coke. Both were very good but as I found out later the pulled pork was not very traditional there since the meat had BBQ sauce on it when it came out, what I was told most pulled pork you put the sauce on at the table. Maybe Charlotte is a bit different then the northern part of the state too. I will have to clarify that before I talk too much out of both sides of my mouth. I will talk later on about other BBQ experiences later on. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes good food and a nice enviroment.
I will leave it here for now, as this post is getting a bit long, but here are a few more photos from the trip (I did not get any of Charlotte since I felt my cameras in the car):
